Moving Tips
Make your move safer, faster, and more organized with these helpful tips:
- Start early. Begin packing items you use less frequently several weeks before moving day.
- Pack one room at a time. Keeping items from the same room together makes unpacking much easier.
- Label every tote. Complete the included label with the room name and a brief description of the contents.
- Create an essentials tote. Pack medications, toiletries, chargers, important documents, basic tools, and other items you will need immediately.
- Distribute weight evenly. Place heavier items on the bottom and lighter or fragile items on top.
- Avoid overpacking. Make sure each lid closes completely without forcing it. A properly closed tote is easier and safer to stack.
- Divide heavy items. Spread books, dishes, tools, and other dense belongings among several totes to keep each container manageable.
- Protect fragile belongings. Wrap breakable items individually and fill empty spaces to prevent movement during transportation.
- Use moving blankets. Cover furniture, mirrors, appliances, and other large items to help prevent scratches and scuffs.
- Use clear moving bags for soft items. Our clear duffel-style bags are ideal for clothing, bedding, blankets, rugs, and winter gear.
- Stack carefully. Place the heaviest totes on the bottom and keep stacks stable and within the recommended stacking limits.
- Use the tote dolly. Move several totes together while reducing unnecessary lifting and carrying.
- Lift safely. Bend at your knees, keep the load close to your body, and ask for help with heavy or bulky items.
- Keep pathways clear. Remove tripping hazards and make sure walkways, stairs, and entrances are well lit.
- Confirm your moving-day details. Verify transportation, helpers, elevator reservations, parking arrangements, and key pickup times in advance.
- Empty totes completely before return. Check each tote, bag, blanket, and accessory for personal belongings before your scheduled pickup.
