With only a short window to move, I found myself using every tote I owned and making endless trips to a big-box store for “just 10 more boxes.” Ten quickly became twenty, and the cost of boxes, packing tape, and other supplies continued to grow. Then came the time-consuming process of assembling everything. Once the move was over, I faced a new problem: mounds of empty boxes to break down, tape sticking to everything, and a box cutter that always seemed to disappear when I needed it. With limited curbside recycling, getting rid of the boxes meant making several trips to the recycling center. I could have searched for free boxes, collected used ones from local stores, or advertised the boxes for someone else to pick up—but during an already overwhelming move, each option required ever more time and energy. That experience made me realize there had to be a simpler way to move. It also made me think about the environmental impact of using so much cardboard for such a short period of time. I created River Valley Totes to offer a convenient, affordable and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional moving boxes.
